Mona Elaine Gernak, 80, of Crooksville, died at 5:40 AM, Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster.
She was born, October 25, 1937 in Zanesville, the daughter of the late Charles Williams and Francis Ferguson.
Mona retired after 25 years from Brockway Glass in Zanesville. She attended and was a member of the Maple Avenue Christian Church in Crooksville and the VFW Auxiliary Post 9090 in Crooksville. Mona was well known for her spitfire personality, her love for having a good time and her infectious laugh. She was such a cool lady and very young at heart.
She is survived by daughters, Vicki (Tom) Tucker and Staci Rodgers both of Crooksville; her grandsons, Brody Payton and Carder (Megan) Payton and her great-granddaughter, Anslie Lane Payton.
In addition to her parents, Mona is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gernak who died on July 1, 1989.
Friends and family will be received, 2:00 PM-8:00 PM, Friday, December 29, 2017 at Maple Avenue Christian Church, 112 Maple Ave., Crooksville with a VFW Auxiliary service held at 7:00 PM. Funeral services and a celebration of Mona’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 30 at the church with Rev. Conard Wolf officiating. Burial will follow in Iliff Cemetery next to her husband, Frank.

So sorry for your loss. Mona was like a Grandma to all of us for many years. She sewed buttons for me and shared her cornflake candy recipe when she was our neighbor. She was a whirlwind who did all of what she did, with gusto. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Your mother was such a nice person to even strangers. She knew how to make you feel good. Her sweet smile and kindness was there every time we would run into to her. Hold on to the memories and sending hugs and prayers,

Stacie and Vickie my heart is breaking for you. We loved our little Mona and can’t imagine all the parties without her big smile. One thing that makes me smile and hope it does you too is that my momma has her best buddy back. Love ya’s
