Dona Lou Smith

Dona Louella Smith, 90, of Crooksville, Ohio went to be with her Lord at 7:35 AM, Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville surrounded by her loving family.

She was born September 6, 1926 in Crooksville, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Brown) Bess.

Dona Lou was a former forty year employee of Frames Market in McLuney. She was a very active and devoted member of Iliff United Methodist Church and had served for many years as president of the United Methodist Womens' Group. In addition, Dona Lou was a member of Carnation Chapter 167 Order of Eastern Star and Coffee Cup Bible Study. She was an avid fan of the Crooksville Ceramics, OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Cavaliers.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ronald L. Smith whom she married July 3, 1974; her daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Al Hardy and Carla and Rick Bankes all of Crooksville and her step-daughter, Sheree and Ross Poling of Crooksville; her step-sons, Jeffree Allen Smith and Stephen Smith; her granddaughters and their spouses, Alea and Tad Barker, Brooke and Bryan Hartley, Dina and Johnny Searles, and Stephanie and Ryan Gill, all of Crooksville; her great grandchildren, Greta Jo Barker, Drew Patrick, Luke Eldon, and Quinn Kylene Hartley, Noah, Jordan and Cami Searles, Toby, Andrew, Skyler and Curtus Gill; her sister-in-law, Joyce (Clifford) Wayne; her brother-in-law, Donald Harper and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dona Lou was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl F. Willison who passed away in 1967; her great granddaughter, Chloe Kylene Barker; her sisters, Faye Bess, Lucretia Ferguson, and Ruth Rosser; her brothers, Russell, William and Robert Bess; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Smith; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Molly and Lloyd Spring, Judy Harper, Wilda and Walter Fickle, Elmo and Margene Willison, Mary Jo Colligan and Michael Smith.

Family and friends will be received 3:00-8:00 PM, Monday, September 19 at Iliff United Methodist Church, 3992 Flint Ridge Rd., Crooksville. Funeral services and a celebration of Dona Lou's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 20 at the church with Rev. Carolyn Hoskinson, Pastor John Sellers and Pastor Greg Imboden officiating. Burial will follow in Iliff Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Dona Lou's memory to the Chloe Barker Memorial Scholarship Fund, 4505 Flint Ridge Rd., Crooksville, OH 43731. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
