Donald Franklin Bateson, 84, of Crooksville passed away at 10:06 AM, Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born, February 12, 1933 in Crooksville, the son of the late, Harry and Leafie Johnson Bateson.
Donnie was a retired equipment operator with the Perry County Engineer's office, where he was very proud of the many times he would work for forty hours straight plowing snow and clearing roadways. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as Co-Owner of Leroy Racing. Donnie deeply enjoyed watching Ohio State Football and Basketball. He was a loyal fan of Crooksville basketball and softball, as well as always being found at the softball field watching the games and tracking down his friend Hank to get a hotdog.
He is survived by his nephew, Bill LeRoy (Angie Hynus) of Crooksville; his sister-in-law, Joan Bateson of New Lexington; his brothers-in-law, Paul Metzger of Columbus and Chuck Mills of Zanesville and his great-nieces and nephews, Amanda LeRoy, Matthew LeRoy, Chelsea LeRoy, Kayleigh Bobb, Myranda Bobb, McKenzie LeRoy and and Westlee Bobb.
In addition to his parents, Donnie is preceded in death by his sisters, Roberta Mills, Betty Cawood, and Abby Metzger; his brother, Robert Bateson; his step-mother, Helen Guest; his aunt, Naomi LeRoy and his great-nephew, Adam Scott.
Family and friends will be received, 2:00 PM-4:00 PM and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Donnie’s life will follow at 8:00 PM with Rev. Gay E. Blau officiating. Following funeral services Donnie will be cremated.
