Frances J. Sowers, 81, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 2:55 AM, Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Genesis Hopice Morrison House in Zanesville following a one year battle with cancer.
Frances was born on January 27, 1932 in Meally, Kentucky, the daughter of the late John Music and Flossie Perkey Music Houston.
Frances retired from Hartstone Pottery in Zanesville. Prior to that, she worked at Nelson McCoy Pottery in Roseville. She spent many years on the plate machine with her dear friend, Mary Miller applying pink and blue stipes to thousands of pottery pieces. She loved spending time with her family, especially her "babies', those grandchildren and great grandchildren who came to visit her often. She also had a gift for making the best light rolls and fried chicken, which she shared with anyone stopping by. She also loved playing the Tic Tac Toe lottery tickets. Frances had attended the Apostolic Church in Zanesville and Bear Run Baptist Church near Six Mile Turn.
Frances is survived by one daughter, Jennie (John) Simmons of Crooksville; her sons, Richard Sowers, Leonard (Mollie) Sowers and James Sowers, all of Crooksville; sixteen grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and many others who called her "Gram"; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Wanda Groves of Marion, Shirley McKenzie and Nora Daniels of Kentucky; brothers, Charles Houston of Ohio and James Houston of Kentucky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Leonard Sowers who passed away in 1957; her second husband, Eldon (Bud) McHenry, who passed away in 1995; grandson, Billy Sowers; step-son, Bernard Sowers; sisters, Opal Hayden, Avonell Orr and Janet Houston and brothers, Leonard and Johnny Music and Eslie Houston.
Family and friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 PM, Monday, March 4 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Frances' life will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 5 at the funeral home with Pastor Aaron Bounds officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Roseville.
