Gary Lee Henry, 78, of Nashport, Ohio went home to be with the Lord at 11:30 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in Morrison House Hospice Facility in Zanesville following an extended illness with his beloved children by his side.
He was born December 8, 1942 in Zanesville unto the late Mary Lou Smith Davis. He was raised and adopted by Charles and Etta Viola (nee: White) Henry.
Gary served our country and defended our freedom in the US Army stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He retired after 35 years from Owens-Corning Fiberglass in Newark. He was a member of many organizations, Moose Lodge #499 in Newark, VFW #9090 Crooksville-Roseville, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #1280, United Ancient Order of Druids #285, Fraternal Order of Police Associates of Ohio Newark Lodge A10, American Legion Post #71 in Roseville, Perry County Baseball Hall of Fame and Newark Masonic Lodge #97. He enjoyed many hobbies; baseball and softball, throwing horseshoes in which he won the World Championship for the Senior League. He like bowling, deer hunting, playing Euchre at least two nights a week, loved classic cars and singing. Gary was Methodist by faith. He was a loving and devoted father.
Left behind to mourn his passing are his children, Sheila Henry (Dan Ambrus), Anita Henry, Susan and Doug Smith, Leah Michelle and Terry Kern, Toni and Lewis Wilson and Mike and Bev Henry; thirteen grandchildren, Timothy (Cassie) Dickerson, Leslie (James) King, Larissa Riley (Dustin Gibson), Chelsi Riley (Dean Bryant), special granddaughter and caregiver Amber Harrison, Cheyenne Downey (Kyle Hildreth), Stephani (William) Agosta, Tasia Kern (Chris Huhn), Wesley (Kari) Kern, Jessica (Cory) Dunn, Heath (Ashley) Kern, Ashley Duffy (Chris Gridley) and Dustin (Ashley) Duffy; 28 great grandchildren; his brothers, Kevin Rummell, Denton Rummel and Billy Rummel.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his grandson, Jordan Harrison and his sister, Rose Williams.
Family and friends may visit and pay respects 5-8 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the funeral home with Noah Schwartz as celebrant. Gary will be laid to rest in Zion Cemetery in Portersville.
