Gladys Emma Rider, 100 of Thornville, formerly of Crooksville and Roseville passed away at 8:54 PM Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Autumn At The Lake in Thornville following an extended illness.
Born October 26, 1910 in the Rider stone house near Roseville, she was the daughter of the late Webster and May Koons Rider.
Gladys was a graduate of Roseville High and attended Ohio University in Athens. She was a kindergarten and primary school teacher for forty years in Zanesville and Roseville schools. Miss Rider was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Roseville where she was a former Sunday school teacher and superintendent, a member of the National, State and Local Retired Teachers' Associations, a member of Roseville Garden Club,
and a former member of the Muskingum County Home Volunteers.
She is survived by her niece, Shirley (Joe) Wilson of Thornville; great nieces, Jodi (David) Stickdorn of Thornville and Karen Sue Wilson of Gallipolis; great nephew, James Wilson of New Lexington; great great nieces and nephews, Timmy Stickdorn, Natalie Fletcher, Nicole Carr, Jason and Nathan Wilson.
Gladys was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Neff and Lucy Vance; nephew, J.O. Neff and great great nephew, Joseph David Stickdorn.
The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM, Thursday, December 2 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE where funeral services and a celebration of Gladys life will be held at 10 AM, Friday, December 3 with Pastor Carolyn Hoskinson officiating. Burial will follow in Crooksville Cemetery.
