Jerry Lester Marks, 79, of Crooksville, peacefully died in his sleep in the early morning hours of Friday, January 28, 2022, at his home.
He was born one of three children on June 12, 1942, to the late Waldo and Geneva (Linger) Marks.
Jerry had various careers throughout his life. He started off as a district manager for Rinks Bargain City and Big Lots. He then attended the Zane State Police Academy and for the next twenty years he was a dedicated police officer. He began his watch for the Genesis Police department where he was the Chief of Police. Following his stent at Genesis, Jerry was then commissioned as a Captain in the Crooksville Police Department and was shortly thereafter promoted to Major. Upon his retirement from the police force, Jerry took the position of Property Manager for the Village of Crooksville, where he served for the next ten years until his retirement in April of 2021.
Jerry was a loving husband for nearly 60 years to his wife Linda and was a dearly devoted father and grandfather. He had a great love for tractors and anything with wheels. He could always be seen riding around on his mower. Jerry will be so dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him, he was a kind soul who loved Conn’s Chips, coney dogs, apple fritters and Tractor Supply. Simply put, Jerry was a regular man who loved life.
Jerry is survived by his wife; Linda (Sparks) Marks; his daughters, Courtney (Scott) Poling, Heather (Jason) Hammer; his sister, Gloria (Dewey) Funk; his grandchildren, Sarah Rose Hammer, Heidi Hammer, Randi (Stephanie) Poling and Mashala Poling. In addition, Jerry leaves behind a very special cousin, Rodney Walters, and a man who was like family, Joey Carr.
In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brother, Russell Marks.
Friends and family may visit from 2-6:00 PM, February 2, 2022, at the Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St. Crooksville. Funeral services will be held, 1:00 PM, Monday, February 7 at the funeral home with Brother Joey Carr officiating. Jerry will then be laid to rest in Iliff Cemetery.
