John Douglas Browning, 73 of Crooksville, passed away at 3:14 AM, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care Morrison House in Zanesville.
John was born, October 2, 1943 in Shawnee, the son of the late Grover and Louise Dobson Browning.
John was a former welder for Owens Corning Fiberglass and he retired as a self-employed contractor. John was a member of the First Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville, the former Fraternal Order of Eagles in Crooksville and the Glass Bottle Blowers Association. John was an avid golfer and deeply enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Susan (Watts) Browning of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Alice Browning of Crooksville and Bob and Kelly Browning of Zanesville; his sister, Ruth Van Horn of McConnelsville; his brother, Dwight (Jean) Browning of Vermilion; his grandchildren, Erica, Courtney, Blair and Lane Browning; and his caregivers, Patty Steer and Kimmie Lacey.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sisters, Geraldine Pontious and Dolores Lloyd; and his brothers, Grover Browning, Jr. and Luther "Red" Browning.
Family and friends will be received, 2:00 PM-4:00 PM, and 6:00 PM-8:00 PM, Friday, April 28, 2017 at the GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of John's life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 29 at the funeral home with Rev. Gay E. Blau officiating. Burial will follow in Crooksville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Ohio 43701 or First Hope United Methodist Church, 102 N. Buckeye St. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
