Joy Lynn McGrath, 83, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away while surrounded by her loving family at 11:58 AM, Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville.
She was born on Sunday, August 18, 1940, in Deavertown, the youngest daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (nee: Biggs) Thomas.
Joy was a former pottery worker having worked in the Watt Pottery in Crooksville and Nelson-McCoy Pottery in Roseville. She enjoyed cooking, cleaning, gardening and had a special passion for doing laundry as she never wanted anything in her laundry hamper. She loved going shopping and out to eat, spending time with her family, camping and fishing. Joy thoroughly loved taking trips to California to visit with her sister. During her entire life, she was well known for rescuing animals of all sorts, wild and domestic, and had a special fondness for her kitties. Joy practiced her Christian faith as a member of Maple Ave. Christian Church in Crooksville. Also, she was a former member of the Sounds of Faith Community Gospel Choir in Crooksville. Joy will be fondly remembered for her witty personality and her wry sense of humor.
Left behind to mourn her passing and carry on her legacy is her son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Robin McGrath; beloved her grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) Johnson, Joe (Darcy) McGrath, Josh (Jakayla) McGrath and Brandon McGrath and his fiancée, Carly Hatfield, her darling great-grandchildren, Kade, Kobe, Landon, Mikenna, Michael, Aiden, Rylee, and Maci; her three little great great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Tina McGrath; her special niece and caregiver, Kathy Moore and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband, George McGrath who passed away March 11, 2006; her beloved son, Kevin McGrath who passed away May 20, 2022; her sisters, Marg Bush, JoAnn Weir, Monabelle Maxwell and Pat Blaney.
Family and friends may visit to pay respects 2-6 pm, Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where funeral services will be held at 6 pm with Pastor Conard Wolf as celebrant. Joy will be cremated following the services and her cremated remains will be buried next to her husband at a later date in Crooksville Cemetery.
