Marlin Paul Wilson, Sr.

Marlin Paul Wilson, Sr., 76, of Crooksville Ohio, passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on Tuesday January 7, 2025. Born on February 3, 1948, in Zanesville, to the late Walter and Margaret (Christman) Wilson, Marlin spent his life dedicated to his family and his community in Crooksville, where he made a home filled with love and laughter.

 He was a proud graduate of Miller High School, the class of 1966. Following his graduation Marlin enlisted into the United States Navy, where he was a proud Veteran, having served his country with honor. He was awarded both the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal for his commitment and bravery. His leadership extended beyond his military service; he was a past Post Commander of VFW 9090 and a member of the Crooksville Legion Post 222, where he devoted his time to ensuring military honors for fellow veterans' funerals. After retiring as a diesel mechanic from Ohio CAT, a career he thrived in for 35 years, Marlin found joy in caring for his yard. It was not uncommon for neighbors to see him tending to his lawn, mowing it to perfection, a small reflection of his dedication to doing things right. In addition, Marlin spent his retirement rebuilding and working on fuel pumps for tractors for farmers throughout the state of Ohio.

 Marlin leaves behind his beloved sons, Matthew (April) Wilson and Marlin Paul Wilson II, along with his dear sisters, Betty (Greg) Wilson and Sharon (John) Hill; his step-daughter, Makayla (Michael) Baker. He is also survived by his very special friend and sweetheart, Susan Altier. He cherished his grandchildren, Hannah (Montel) Wilson, River Wilson, Chloe Wilson, Mya (Eli) Wilson, Ben Baker, Luke Baker, and Wyatt Baker; as well as his great-grandchildren; Milo Mayle and Hendrix Chapman. Marlin also leaves behind a whole host of Redfern family in-laws. Each of them holding a special place in his heart.

 In addition to his parents, Marlin was preceded in death by his wife, who died on September 13th, 2000, Maureen (Redfern) Wilson, his infant brother, Ernest Wilson, his significant other, Linda Wood, and his grandchild, David Baker. 

 His family invites you to join them for a celebration of Marlin's life. A public viewing will take place at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St. Crooksville, on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service 1:00 PM, with John Hill as celebrant. He will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery next to his wife. Military and Burial Honors will be rendered by The United States Navy Honor Guard in conjunction with the local Veterans organizations.
