Richard Lee Thomas Jackson, 88, of Corning, Ohio went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at 12:35 PM, Monday, June 28, 2021 at his residence following a long battle with cancer.
He was born December 4, 1932 in Wellington, Kansas, the son of the late Loren Homer and Nora Belle (Schauwecker) Jackson.
Richard served our country in the US Air Force in the Korean War. He was a retired special delivery mail carrier, delivering mail on a train in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Richard was a member of Bear Run Baptist Church of New Lexington. He liked trains, working on watches, reading books and taking long car rides with Gloria. He had the dubious honor of singing in Billy Graham's choir at one of Rev Graham's revivals. Richard had also served as a hospital volunteer, loved to travel and dearly loved his family and the Lord.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Gloria (Spiller) Jackson; his daughter, Tena (Tim) Sutton; his step children, Donna (Roger) Mills, Jerry (Denise) Lemay, Sandra (Larry) Hurford and Pam (Jack) Clark; his brother, Donald (Lue Ann) Jackson; 13 grandchildren, Brenda Strong (Kevin Watkins), Cody (Bailee) White, Roger (Lori) Mills, Jr., Tammy (Paul) Watson, Brenda (Joe) Smith, Jimmie (Charity) Lemay, Shawn (Shelly) Lemay, Brandon Lemay, Lela (Jason) Northrup, Noah Hurford (Shaylee Heistad), David Clark, Michael Clark and 22 great-grandchildren and 14 great great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Jackson who died March 29, 1999; his grandsons, Doug Strong and John K. Donaldson, II; his siblings, Margaret (Jackson) (Leon) Remington, Betty Jean Jackson, Billy (Beverly) Jackson and Jerry (Sigrid) Jackson and nieces, Rita (Jackson) Crysell and Debra Jackson.
Family and friends will be received beginning at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Bear Run Baptist Church, 10119 St Rt 37, New Lexington, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM at the church with Pastor Roger Mills as celebrant.
Richard will return to his home state of Tennessee for entombment next to his first wife, Mary in the mausoleum in Hendersonville Memory Gardens on July 17, 2021.
