Richard Day Young

Richard Day Young, 83, of Somerset, Ohio died in the morning hours of Monday, September 6, 2021 at Adams Lane Care Center in Zanesville following an extended illness.

He was born March 24, 1938 in Crooksville, the eldest son of the late Franklin K. and Bernice (nee: Day) Young.

Richard retired after 39 years as a maintenance technician  at Rockwell International in Newark.  He served our country in US Marine Corps, 1956-1962 and U S Army 1962-1964.  Richard was a biblical Christian by faith.  He was an avid bowler, having bowled some 2300 games with a few perfect 300’s among them.  Richard also enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and coaching his granddaughter’s softball teams.  He was a devoted family man.

Left behind to mourn his passing is his wife of 59 (almost 60) years, Margaret (nee: McGill) Young; his children, Deborah Young and Timothy Young; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Shane) Pickenpaugh, Holli (Tyler Bryan) Young and Shelby (Kyle Lozier) Young; his great-grandchildren, Kamdin and Kohen Bryan, Brantlee and Karalyne Pickenpaugh; his siblings, Linda (Alfred) Lunn and Tom Young and his former daughter-in-law, Patricia Young.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his aunts, Lois Day and Edith Ansel and his stepmother, Ella (nee: Peart) Young.

Family and friends will be received at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM with Jim Clegg as celebrant.  Richard will be laid to rest in Zion Cemetery in Portersville.
