Sallie "Sarah" Ann Tabler Vanoy

Sallie "Sarah" Ann Tabler Vanoy, 71, of Crooksville, Ohio passed away at 10:00 PM Thurday, June 20, 2013 at Autumn Health Care of Somerset following an extended illness.

She was born July 26, 1941 in New Lexington, the daughter of the late George W. and Bertha Ann Goodin Tabler.

Sallie graduated from Junction City High School in the Class of '59. She also graduated from the Newark School of Cosmetology, managed several restaurants and retired from S.E. Correctional Institute in Lancaster. She was baptized in the Baptist faith and was a member of the New Lexington Baptist Church. She was a tireless advocate for Echoing Meadows where her daughter resides, appearing before several state congressional committees, petitioning on their behalf. One of Sallie's favorite activities was swimming because she said she felt weightless and free. Her favorite place was Sanibel Island, Florida where she spent countless hours bobbing in the Gulf. In the last few years, she enjoyed many a summer afternoon floating with her friend Linda Ruff in her pool. She loved the classmates of her graduating class of '59. They never lost track of each other over the years and met monthly for lunch and "catching" up.

Sallie is survived by her son, Shon (Dawn) Vanoy of Crooksville; daughters, Stacie Ann Vanoy of Athens and Michelle J. Eckenrod of Dothan, Alabama; sisters, Gwendolyn Sue Tabler of Port Orange, Florida and George Ann (Nate) McColley of Cochocton; brothers, Freddie Lee Tabler of New Lexington and Rob Doss (Darla) of Zanesville; grandchildren, Kitana and Branden Vanoy of Crooksville; and special friends, Valerie McHenry, Linda Ruff, and Florence Rutter all of Crooksville as well as Cecilia Brewer of Port Orange, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-7:30 PM Sunday, June 23, 2013 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Sallie's life will be held at 7:30 PM at the funeral home with Stan McHenry officiating. Sally will be interred at the Tabler farm in the Tabler family cemetery.
