Thomas B. Conaway, 84, of Crooksville died at 5:48 AM, Wednesday, July 4, 2018 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness.
He was born April 25, 1934 in Crooksville, the son of the late Gerald B. and Abby Marie (Sutherland) Conaway.
Tom retired from Englefield Oil Company where he worked as a maintenance technician. He frequently attended the Oakfield Wesleyan Church and was a former member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Crooksville. Tom joined the U.S. Navy during the height of the Korean Conflict, he continued to serve his country for the next eight years. In continuing his public service, Tom served as Lieutenant on the Crooksville Fire Department and had served many years as a Harrison Township Trustee. In addition, Tom was an active member of the K of P Lodge 606 Crooksville-Roseville. He enjoyed camping with his family, friends and his buddy Pepper. Tom was also known for his enthusiastic sense of humor, always striving to lighten the mood and put a smile on his family's faces. Tom was always ready to offer his help to anyone that needed it. He loved his family dearly and was loved by all in return.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Zona (Good) Conaway; his daughters, Karen (Dan) Hinkle of Crooksville, LeAnn (Chris) Hoaglin of New York, Diane (Andy) Cox of Zanesville and Elaine (Duane) Moore of Thornville ; his sons, Tom (Kelly) Conaway, Dr. Brad (Lisa) Wilson and Greg (Betty) Wilson, all of Crooksville; his sister, Rose Marie (Larry) Taylor of Crooksville; his grandchildren, Dan (LaDawn) Hinkle, Ashley (Logan) Goins, Abby Conaway, Jennifer (Jeff) Kosla, Sky Wilson, Henry Meinstereifel, Morgan (Sully) Shriver, Grace Wilson and Ellie Wilson; his great grandchildren, Alayna, Alyvia, Skylyn, Oakley, Brody, Clint, Eva and Abraham; his mother-in-law, Grandma Good; his brother-in-law, Ladd (Mary) Good and very special friends, Shirley Mercer and her family.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Hines and his brother, Paul Conaway.
The Conaway family will receive family and friends 4:00-8:00 PM, Saturday, July 7 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Tom's life will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, July 8 at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Hinkle presenting the service. Interment will follow in Iliff Cemetery with full military honors.
