Timothy L. Matheney, born on January 10, 1952, in Crooksville, Ohio, peacefully passed away after bravely battling an extended illness. Known affectionately as Tim by his friends and family, he was the beloved son of James (Jim) Matheney and Betty Jane (Williams) Matheney.
Tim spent his earlier years living in Crooksville, Ohio, and served as an Auxiliary Crooksville Police Officer, achieving the rank of Auxiliary Major. He dedicated many years of his life working underground at Peabody Coal Company and a truck driver at The New Bakery Company in Zanesville.
Tim was a devoted member of Ironspot Word of God Church, where he shared cherished moments with his friends.
Among his passions were Late Model Dirt Track Racing, NASCAR Racing on Sundays, and enjoying quality time with his family and friends. Tim will always be remembered for his kind and loving nature and his talent for bringing joy with a witty joke.
Tim is proceeded in death by his parents and his sister Cheryl Sowers and her husband Byron (Jum) Sowers.
Tim leaves behind a legacy of love through his four children: Shelly Lynn Ater (Todd Griggers) of Macon, GA, Amy Jo Dew of Roseville, Ohio, Tim Matheney II of Zanesville, Ohio, and James & Tiffany Matheney of Dresden, Ohio. He also held a special place in his heart for his cousin Donnie Sue Maxwell of Crooksville, Ohio who he talked to every day for most of his life. Lastly, his dog at home Gidget.
Additionally, Tim’s memory will be carried on by his seven grandchildren: Kayden Dew, Daralyn Ater, Skye Matheney, Gage Matheney, Slade Dew, Talon Matheney, and Noah Bailey and four special nieces and nephews: Dirk Sowers of Pensacola, FL, Dusty Graham of Zanesville, Ohio, James Sowers of Zanesville, and Jodi Downs of McConnelsville, Ohio.
Friends are welcome to visit and pay their final respects from 2-4:00 PM & 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Goebel Funeral Home, 36 N. Buckeye St., Crooksville. A service to honor and celebrate Tim's life will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Word of God Community Church, 5445 3rd St, Roseville, OH 43777, where services will be rendered by Pastor Marc Caton. Tim will then be buried in Crooksville Cemetery next to his parents.
