Tommy Wayne Wood

Tommy Wayne Wood, 83, of Newark, formerly of Crooksville passed away 10:40 AM, Monday, July 10, 2017 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark following a sudden illness.

Tom was born January 19, 1934 in Morgan County, the son of the late John and Gladys Neff Wood.

Tom retired as a casting operator from Kaiser Aluminum in Heath, and was a member of the USWA Local 341. Tom was a 30-year member of the Crooksville Fire Department, where he had also served as Fire Chief from 1987-1991. He deeply enjoyed listening to all country music and attending the TNT Bluegrass events in Hebron. Tom was an avid reader and he was well known for eating breakfast every morning at Bob Evans.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Canter Wood of the home; his daughters, Brenda (Ed) Hoops of New Lexington, Pam (Jeff) Wolfe of New Lexington and Janey Wood of Crooksville; his sons, Steve Wood of Roseville and Kelly (Teresa) Wood of Reynoldsburg; his sisters, Joyce Fracker of Crooksville and Sandy Geyer of Zanesville; his brothers, Jerry (Jeannette) Wood of Crooksville, Ivan Wood of Missouri and Richard Wood of Arizona; his daughter-in-law, Karen Wood of Portersville; his son-in-law Marlin Wilson of Rose Farm; his step children, Wendy Montgomery, Cindy Decker and Larry Decker; his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his first wife, Leila Faye Wood who passed away, August 8, 1988; his daughter, Linda Wood; his son, Kenneth Wood; his daughter-in-law Marlene Wood; his sister, Wanda Maier and his brother, John "Rex" Wood.

Family and friends will be received, 3:00 PM-7:00 PM, Friday, July 14, 2017 at the GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Tom's life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday July 15 at the funeral home with Robert Heinlein officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Roseville.
