It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tony Wayne Sexton, born on February 17, 1951 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and passing away on September 29, 2024, in Roan Mountain, Tennessee.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Tony Sexton and Davizell (Wilcox) Sexton.
A veteran of the Marine Corps, Tony enlisted on March 18, 1969, and was discharged on May 24, 1974, reaching the rank of Sergeant. His dedication and sacrifices for his country will always be remembered. Tony dedicated his life in service to his country, bravely serving in the Vietnam War as a Marine Corps helicopter instructor and a helo-machine gun operator. His unwavering commitment led him to be appointed as a Company Crew Chief, where he had the final say on whether a bird would fly. However, the toll of his service was evident, as he faced struggles with PTSD that forever changed him and led him to fall through the cracks of the system.
In honor of his service and memory, a viewing will be held at the Goebel Funeral Home on October 4, 2024, at 11:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Crooksville Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the United States Marine Corp in conjunction with local veterans groups.
Tony Wayne Sexton will forever be cherished and remembered for his service, dedication, and sacrifices. May he rest in peace.
