Velva Kathryn Heigley

Velva Kathryn Heigley, 100, of Deavertown, Ohio passed away at 12:30 AM, Monday, October 31, 2016 at Willow Haven Care Center in Zanesville following an extended illness.

Kathryn was born September 15, 1916 in Whipstown, Perry County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Israel Ernest and Maude Lena (Street) Bell.

She moved with her family to their farm on Cotton Ridge, York Township in 1924. She attended the one-room Christman School and graduated from York High School in 1935. In 1939, Kathryn married Steve Heigley and they had 64 years of wonderful life together raising their sons. Kathryn enjoyed farm life, gardening, and cooking great meals for her family. She was well known for her homemade noodles and wild black raspberry pies. She collected glassware and always had a quilt in progress. She was an active member of Deavertown United Methodist Church, Ladies Aid, Carnation Chapter 167 Order of Eastern Star and Deavertown Women's Club. She was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and farm worker.

Kathryn is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cheryl Heigley and Bernard and Carol Heigley, all of Deavertown; her grandchildren, Julie Van Horn, Mike and Verna Heigley, Heidi and James Staker, Holly and Jodi Perani, Bryan Heigley, Rebecca Heigley, Joel and Alicia Heigley and Andrew and Amy Heigley; eighteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Heigley who passed away April 1, 2004; her great granddaughter, Lorianna Van Horn; her sister, Dorothy Ford and her brothers, Floyd Bell and Charles Bell.

Family and friends will be received 4:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at GOEBEL FUNERAL HOME, 36 N. BUCKEYE ST., CROOKSVILLE. Funeral services and a celebration of Kathryn's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 3, at Deavertown United Methodist Church, St. Rt. 669, Crooksville (Deavertown). Burial will follow in Deavertown United Methodist Cemetery.
